The Iota chapter of Sigma Gamma Phi (Arethusa) Sorority was founded at SUNY Potsdam on October 14, 1989 with sisters from both SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson. They are a regional sorority with four chapters, all in New York. The Lambda chapter was briefly active in Potsdam in 1930 and then merged with two other sororities, later dissolving in 1940.
