Arethusa at "Kick it for Claire"

St. Lawrence University's Center for Civic Engagement held their second annual "Kick It" event on Saturday, April 13th. This year they hosted this "Kick It" for a 2-year-old girl with cystic fibrosis named Claire from Norwood (about 15 miles away from SLU). Since Arethusa sorority (sisters from both SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson) sponsors Claire they decided to make the trip and participate. Over $6,000 was raised during the event.

The event was held in the Newell Field House from noon-4pm and included Zumba®, a silent auction, and lots of activities such as a pie toss, tie-dying, face painting, nail painting, hair extensions, hair wraps, bean bag toss, tug of war, and more.

Cystic Fibrosis is a life threatening disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. Just two generations ago, most children with CF didn't life long enough to attend elementary school. Today, nearly half of the people with CF are 18 or older. Much progress has been made toward finding a cure for CF, but the CF Foundation's work is far from over as we continue to lose precious lives to this disease every day. While Claire looks like a very healthy little girl, she endures several treatments daily to maintain healthy lungs and digestion and germs are her enemy.
