Homecoming Weekend each Fall at SUNY Potsdam used to be a big event for Greek Houses. There was a an Organizational Sing competition, a King & Queen, parade with floats and a play. From the yearbooks I checked it seemed that a different House was responsible for the play each year.
Here is some info and pictures from the 1971 Homecoming (scroll down for 1973):

The tone of Homecoming Weekend this year was as
warm and sunny as the beautiful weather we had. Thursday evening's activities focused on Merritt Hall where
sororities, fraternities, and dorms participated in the Organizational Sing, presenting their own arrangements of
traditional and original songs before their fellow students
and a panel of judges. First prize was awarded to Phi
Kappa Pi Sorority for their performance of "Rainy Girl",
an original song by Val Schoeler.
Excitement prevailed as
Bonnie McGee of Draime and Gary Dziok of Psi Phi were
crowned Homecoming King and Queen. Crowds lined
the streets of Potsdam Saturday to view the traditional Homecoming Parade. Prometheus Fraternity and Sisson
Dormitory were awarded first prizes for their colorful
floats.

Both Friday and Saturday nights a "very funny
thing happened" in the College Theater ... Psi Phi's presentation of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way
to the Forum" was exceptionally well done and
thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The weekend was
brought to an end by a chicken barbeque on the
banks of the Racquette River; and an intimate and
warm concert Sunday evening featuring Mac Davis, the
County Line, and Jam Factory. Homecoming 1971
certainly was a memorable success!
1973 Homecoming
It was certainly a "Far Away Place" when Potsdam was blessed with brilliant sun and cool breezes during Fall
Weekend. Everyone seemed to march their hearts out
with many different
versions of floats
accenting the landscape. Greeks and
Independents all
displayed tremendous amounts of
creativity in their
entries. Draime-
VanHousen received first place
with their version
of "Childhood".
Second was awarded to Knowles'
"Heaven and Hell"
and third was captured by Prometheus and Phi K's
"Toyland". Honorable mention was
awarded to Ago's
"Land of Oz ". All
in all, the parade
was a fantastic
success

ReplyDeleteMy mistake. "To the Sun" was Fall 1972.
